Names

What's in a name? Mark and I like the meaning behind names. It's important when you are naming your children. It's also about heritage, what gets passed down through family generations.

People have been wondering about changing Andrey's name. He asked us what we thought, we asked him what he liked and it was unanimous....we all liked the name Andrew because it is close to Andrey. He likes it! He's never had a daddy, so being named after Mark for a middle name was a bonus for Andrew!

He sent us a text last night that said "Mickschls are the best forever!" He has a family. That's what is important to Andrew. Someone wants him. They want him for a son, brother, grandson and nephew. When the judge read the court's notes, it said that no one ever visited Andrey in the orphanage and no Ukrainian wanted to adopt him. He sat there with his head down looking at the floor. How must he feel? But now there is a family who wants him! Who love him! I'm so thankful to the Lord for this amazing boy! Thank you, Jesus, for letting us be a part of Andrew's life!

Blessings,
Hansina

  2. I really love the name and I think it makes perfect sense and has wonderful significance. Something that does get frustrating when you have an unusual name (as my first name is) you are ALWAYS getting "What's that- Julie? Joanne?" That is what your son would face in the U.S., too. As you probably know. It is a blessing that there is an English name just one letter off! And you can always call him Andrey at home, as one of his nicknames. :)

  3. My heart grieves for a young man to hear that in court. Praying that none of those words penetrate his soul! I know it was all official business..but imagine--it would here to hear that "no one wants you"----Praise the Lord for bringing a family of redeemers into his life. May he really be able to embrace and receive your love! May GOD flood his being with a sense of value and purpose! Blessings to you all! See you soon! Love L

  4. Congratulations! I am friends with Mark and Melanie Hansen and she introduced me to your blog as well as Veronica Brown's. We will be traveling to Ukraine very soon - Sevastopol with Olga as our facilitator - and we are hoping to be able to blog our adoption journey for our friends and family while we are there. I noticed on the Brown's blog that you helped her in down loading an app that allowed her to blog. We will be using a tablet to blog as well. Would you be willing to share the app with us so that we are able to make it all work? Trying so hard to get all of our ducks in a row! Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. We hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly. God bless! Erica Gillis
